Netflix Greenlights First-Ever Live-Action Scooby-Doo Series

Scooby-Doo has been entertaining fans for over 50 years with its blend of humor, mystery, and supernatural suspense. Now, for the first time ever, Netflix is bringing the iconic mystery-solving crew live-action in a TV series, presenting fans with a fresh take on the beloved franchise.

A New Beginning for Mystery Inc.

Produced by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg for their Midnight Radio imprint, the eight-episode show returns fans to the group's initial case that brought them together. Shown during their final summer at Camp Ruby-Spears, best friends Shaggy and Daphne stumble upon a creepy mystery of a missing Great Dane puppy—one that could have witnessed a ghostly crime. With the logical Velma and enigmatic new friend Freddy, they set out to solve a spine-tingling mystery that threatens to unveil their darkest secrets.

A First-Class Production Team

The series is executive-produced by Appelbaum and Rosenberg, together with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman (Berlanti Productions), and André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner (Midnight Radio). Berlanti, a lifelong Scooby-Doo fan, stated: "Josh and Scott have written a story that really pays homage to the wonder of the original but also adds a new, exciting twist."

Netflix’s Vice President of Scripted Series, Peter Friedlander, emphasized the cultural impact of Scooby-Doo: “The franchise’s timeless themes of friendship and adventure make it perfect for a new generation. With Berlanti Productions and Midnight Radio, we’re excited to introduce Mystery Inc. in a whole new way.”

A Legacy of Beloved Adaptations

Netflix has managed to recreate legendary franchises in live-action format with One Piece, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Wednesday. With Scooby-Doo, Netflix is hoping to bring back nostalgia along with freshness into the frame. Warner Bros. Television's Clancy Collins White stated, "This series will give longtime fans and new audiences alike a fun entry point to Mystery Inc."

With a blend of horror, comedy, and emotional moments, Netflix's live-action Scooby-Doo series promises to dish out a contemporary yet faithful adaptation of the legendary crime-solving gang. Stay tuned for more as the suspense builds!
