DreamWorks' Live-Action Adaptation

DreamWorks is also working on turning How to Train Your Dragon into a live-action movie with a highly anticipated live-action spin-off scheduled to come out on June 13, 2025. The studio has already approved a sequel, How to Train Your Dragon 2, prior to its release and has declared it will debut on June 11, 2027. The fans of this animation classic are in store for a treat as Hiccup and Toothless are all geared to come back to floors in a new form.

The Tale: A Norse Viking and a Dragon

The live-action adaptation will follow the familiar story of the 2010 animated film. Hiccup (Chris Sanders) is a Berkan Viking boy who lives on Berk island, where dragon slaying is a way of existence. The other Vikings perceive dragons in a different light, but to Hiccup, dragons are not monsters to slay but animals to study and friends to make.

Hiccup's world is forever changed when he discovers an injured Night Fury dragon, who turns out to become Toothless. Their association goes against generations of tradition among his own people, as well as those of Viking chief Stoick the Vast (voice of Dean DeBlois). Hiccup, training Toothless in secrecy, discovers how to bring dragons and men together, forever changing Berk's destiny.

Hiccup and Toothless explore new worlds, create new dragon riders, and battle a powerful adversary threatening their peaceful dragon-taming way of life.
