League of Legends Dev Update: Hextech Chests, Champion Costs & More
Riot Games has announced major updates in response to community feedback, aiming to enhance the overall player experience in League of Legends. These adjustments impact Hextech Chests, champion acquisition, skins, Clash tournaments, and in-game shops.
Due to overwhelming demand, Hextech Chests are being reintroduced. Starting Patch 25.05, players can earn up to ten Hextech Chests and Keys per Act—eight through the free Battle Pass and two via Honor rewards. This change replaces the previously offered free Battle Pass skins and ensures that chests remain accessible to players regardless of their playstyle.
To make champion acquisition easier, the Blue Essence cost for all champions will be reduced by 50% in Patch 25.05. This change aims to assist new and returning players in building their champion pool more efficiently.
The upcoming Exalted Mordekaiser skin is delayed to improve its design and execution. Additionally, Riot is enhancing the quality of skins in the Battle Pass, reducing the number of themed skins per pass while introducing 25 Mythic Essence in place of one non-Prestige skin. The Act 2 Battle Pass will feature Prestige skins for Darius, Sion, and Talon.
After community feedback, Riot is bringing back monthly Clash tournaments. March’s event will be ARURF Clash, followed by a standard Summoner’s Rift Clash in April. Riot also invites players to share feedback on additional game mode preferences for future Clash events.
The beloved Your Shop and Blue Essence Emporium will return soon—Your Shop in Patch 25.06 and the Emporium in Patch 25.07—allowing players to grab discounted skins and items.
The Battle Pass is undergoing significant changes to accommodate Hextech Chests. Free reward milestones increase from 20 to 24, while paid reward milestones drop from 30 to 26. The free pass Seasonal skins are removed, and 25 Mythic Essence is added to the paid pass.
Riot acknowledges that making League of Legends feel rewarding requires continuous improvements. They promise to monitor these updates and make further refinements based on player feedback.
Stay tuned for more updates, and see you on the Rift!
