Sony Confirms PlayStation 5 Price Hike Across Several Regions
Sony has officially announced a major price increase for the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, especially in Europe and the Middle East. The new pricing reflects a €100 jump in Europe, making the digital version now €500. In the UK, it will cost £429, and similar increases are expected in Australia and New Zealand.
Interestingly, the original PS5 with a disc drive will keep its current price for now. Similarly, the PS5 Pro will not see any price changes either.
In a surprising move, Sony has decided to reduce the price of the detachable disc drive for the digital PS5 version. This appears to be a way to balance out the cost hike for some users who may consider upgrading.
Although Sony hasn't released official price updates for Arab markets yet, based on the European prices, we estimate the digital PS5 might cost around:
These estimates could change, depending on local taxes and import regulations.
Sony cited global inflation and economic instability as the main reasons behind the price changes. However, the decision has raised eyebrows, especially after recent reports that former U.S. President Donald Trump called for the removal of tariffs on electronic imports, which was expected to ease prices globally.
This unexpected price increase could impact buyers across multiple regions, particularly in the Middle East where pricing already varies due to shipping and import costs. If you're planning to buy a PS5 soon, you might want to act fast before local retailers adjust to the new global prices.
