Marvel's Wolverine is one of the most anticipated PlayStation 5 exclusives, developed by the award-winning team at Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Inspired by the legendary Marvel Comics character, the game promises a gritty, emotional story that stands on its own but shares continuity with Insomniac’s other Marvel hits like Spider-Man and Miles Morales.
The game tells an original and self-contained story focused on Logan, better known as Wolverine—a mutant with retractable claws, superhuman senses, and a powerful healing factor. In the game, Logan wrestles with his violent past and his desire to protect those who can't protect themselves. It also brings in characters and elements from the broader X-Men universe.
During the development of Marvel's Spider-Man (2018), Insomniac Games expressed interest in creating a Wolverine title. After the success of their Spider-Man games, they pitched the idea to Marvel and Sony. In September 2021, Marvel's Wolverine was officially announced during the PlayStation Showcase, alongside Spider-Man 2.
Creative leads Brian Horton and Cameron Christian were initially in charge, but in 2024, they were replaced by Marcus Smith and Mike Daly, known for their work on Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

These writers bring a blend of emotional depth, action, and strong character development.
In December 2023, Insomniac Games suffered a ransomware attack by a group called Rhysida. This cyberattack leaked concept art, character details, gameplay slices, and even sensitive employee data. Though the leaks offered a glimpse into the game’s direction, many in the gaming industry condemned the breach. Developers and studios like Remedy Entertainment and Naughty Dog showed strong support for Insomniac during this time.
Insomniac responded to the attack, saying:
“The events that transpired took an extremely distressing emotional toll on the development teams involved... but this will not affect our production plans.”
Sony took legal action to remove leaked content, and Insomniac reassured fans that progress on the game continues.
Marvel's Wolverine is set to release exclusively on PlayStation 5. While no official release date has been confirmed, fans can expect it to take full advantage of the PS5’s hardware and even include enhancements for the PlayStation 5 Pro.
Insomniac Games has been clear with fans, stating:
"We're actively working on Marvel's Wolverine for PS5. We'll share news about the game when we are ready to share it. That will always be our answer. We can't act on everything requested when things take time, resources, and the greenlight to share them."
Marvel's Wolverine is shaping up to be a mature, story-driven action game that delivers on everything fans love about the character—grit, emotion, and raw power. With a strong creative team and the proven talent of Insomniac Games, it’s set to become one of the PlayStation 5's biggest hits.
Stay tuned for official updates as development continues.
