The Silent Hill franchise is making a chilling return with Silent Hill f, an upcoming survival horror game developed by NeoBards Entertainment and published by Konami Digital Entertainment. Departing from the series' traditional Western setting, Silent Hill f takes place in 1960s Japan and introduces a new protagonist, Hinako Shimizu, as she navigates the fog-covered town of Ebisugaoka while battling nightmarish creatures and solving eerie puzzles.

A Japanese Horror Reinvention

Silent Hill f marks a major shift in the franchise by embracing 100% Japanese horror, moving away from the previous Western influences.

Konami enlisted renowned visual novel writer Ryukishi07, known for Higurashi When They Cry, to craft a deeply unsettling and psychological horror narrative.

The game’s setting, Ebisugaoka, is inspired by real-life Kanayama, Gero, in Gifu Prefecture, with developers aiming to authentically recreate the atmosphere of 1960s Japan.

Development and Gameplay Features

Visual and Sound Design: Silent Hill f aims to redefine horror aesthetics. Artist Kera sought to create disturbing yet mesmerizing monster designs, while legendary composer Akira Yamaoka returns to infuse the soundtrack with an eerie, immersive ambiance.

Core Themes: The game continues the Silent Hill tradition of exploring internal struggles, sin, and psychological conflict, but now within a Japanese cultural framework.

A New Protagonist: Unlike past Silent Hill characters who were often drawn into events beyond their control, Hinako Shimizu will be an active decision-maker in shaping her fate.

Release and Expectations

Silent Hill f was officially announced in October 2022, with a full reveal in March 2025. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.

With its shift to Japanese horror, Silent Hill f promises to deliver a fresh yet deeply unsettling experience that stays true to the franchise’s psychological terror roots. Are you ready to step into the fog once more?
